Brittney and Cherelle Griner made a joyous announcement on April 13, 2024. They took to Instagram to reveal they are going to be moms. Their bundle of joy will arrive in July. They are over the moon with excitement to become parents for the first time.
Brittney and Cherelle first met when they were students at Baylor University from 2009 to 2013. Brittney has been playing in the WNBA since 2013. They didn’t start dating until years after their initial introduction. They got married in 2019.
Their Instagram announcement perfectly captures their excitement about their growing family. “Can’t believe we’re less than three months away from meeting our favorite human being,” it read. The hashtags #BabyGrinerComingSoon and #July2024 add a final flourish.
This happy news comes after a difficult 2022. In February of that year, Brittney was detained at an airport in Russia. Gate agents alleged she packed vape cartridges with cannabis oil, which is illegal in the country.
During her trial, Brittney stated she packed them by mistake. She was sentenced to nine years to be served in a Russian penal colony beginning in November 2022. Thankfully, the following month, President Joe Biden was able to negotiate her release in exchange for a Russian arms dealer who was imprisoned in the US.
