Karoline Leavitt’s previous job as President Donald Trump’s press secretary also meant that her mother had a “once in a lifetime opportunity” to meet the president and visit the White House. And during a recent conversation, Karoline’s mom, Erin Leavitt, shed light on what that experience was really like.
She recalled meeting Trump for the very first time and recounted how he made a comment about her appearance, which she seemed to take as a compliment.
Trump’s comment made her feel good about herself.
Karoline, 29, became the youngest White House Press Secretary in history in 2025 when she took on the role at age 27. When Trump, 80, met her mom for the first time, he suggested that they looked more like sisters, which Erin seems to take pride in.
Erin is 56 years old, which makes her about 27 years older than her daughter, but still younger than Karoline’s husband, who is 61 years old.
Erin recently appeared on Dr. Sheldon Sevinor’s podcast, where she revealed that Trump asked her, “Oh, is this your sister?” when they met for the first time, per The U.S. Sun.
She described the experience as “thrilling.”
On the podcast, Dr. Sevinor mentioned how other people have made comments about how Karoline and Erin look more like sisters than mother and daughter. “I love that,” Karoline’s mom responded. “I get that a lot.”
When she mentioned the interaction with the president, Dr. Sevinor asked how she felt in that moment. “It was absolutely amazing,” she said, adding that “the West Wing is just a majestic, magical place” and “absolutely beautiful.”
She said visiting the White House was a “thrilling” and “exhilarating” experience for her, especially because she met Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. She mentioned the “history and the energy” as well, adding that “you can just feel the magic in the whole place.”
“You just think about the people and all of the past presidents who have been there, and to see my daughter’s beautiful office, and to go and meet the vice president and Marco Rubio, and on and on it went, and yes, the president did say, ‘Oh, is this your sister?’ with a chuckle,” Erin recalled.
Erin also praised her daughter.

Trump’s comment clearly stuck with her, but she also spoke about how “surreal” it felt to see her own daughter working as his press secretary. “It’s unbelievable. It really is,” she said. “Some days I just can’t even believe it. I see her bravery of being on the podium, and… it’s surreal.”
Karoline left her Trump administration gig in August of this year. Earlier this month, Fox News announced that Karoline would be joining the network as an on-air contributor starting November 1.
In May, Karoline and her husband welcomed their second child, a daughter named Viviana, together. They’re also parents to a son named Niko, who they welcomed in July 2024. When Karoline stepped down from her White House role, she said it was because she wanted to have more time to focus on her family.
