For the first time, Brittney Griner is detailing her time as a Russian prisoner in a new interview that is set to air on May 1, 2024 as a special edition of 20/20.

The 33-year-old WNBA star agreed to a sit-down interview to open up about her 10 months in Russian detainment after being arrested in a Moscow airport in February of 2022 for possessing vape cartridges containing cannabis oil. In an exclusive trailer, Brittney takes Good Morning America host Robin Roberts through her experience.

In the clip, through tears, Brittney explains, "I was just so scared for everything." She continued on to open up about dealing with suicidal thoughts during her time in confinement.

"I didn't think I could get through what I needed to get through," she said, describing the conditions as making her feel "less than a human." She says her mattress had a blood stain on it and she had no soap or toilet paper.
