Camila Giorgi shocked tennis fans in May when she abruptly retired. She didn't share a formal announcement, but as of Tuesday, May 7, 2024, 32-year-old Italian tennis player's name could be found on the International Tennis Integrity Agency’s list of retired players.
Shortly after people found out about her retirement, possible reasons came to light: Marca reported that she wanted to pursue a lingerie modeling career. Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sporto reported that Camila is actually on the run from tax authorities. And now, the tennis star's landlord has added to the drama.
La Gazzetta dello Sporto reported that because Camila allegedly failed to pay taxes and did not declare her full income, she is wanted by the Guardia di Finanza, Italy's financial police.
She reportedly ran off to the United States, as per Marca. Now, her landlord alleges that she failed to pay rent and also stole furniture.

Before allegedly moving to the US, Camila was reportedly living in a rental property in Calenzano, Tuscany. However, her landlord said that she still owes six months' worth of rent, reports The U.S. Sun.
Additionally, her landlord claims that Camila and her family "made half of our furniture disappear," Marca reported.
"Persian rugs, fine furniture, even an antique half-ton table. We are talking about damage between [$54,000 and $108,000]," the landlord told La Repubblica, according to The U.S. Sun.
Her family — including her parents and her brothers — reportedly also came to the US with her, and the landlord said he has been in contact with Camila's dad, Sergio.
The landlord said that they wrote to Sergio, asking him to return the items that the family allegedly stole, but Sergio's response was "contemptuous," according to the landlord.
Lawyers for Camila have said that she is not staying in the US permanently and will return to Italy, ANSA reported.
The lawyers also told the outlet that Camila's retirement and alleged tax issues are not related.
"Camila's withdrawal from competitive competitions has nothing to do with the affair linked to the Guardia di Finanza investigations," they told ANSA.
Camila addressed the rumors via her Instagram Story. In the post, she confirmed her retirement, but also noted that "there have been many inaccurate rumors about my future plans."
However, ANSA also reported that Italian tax authorities had been unable to locate Camila as of May 13.
Camila's landlord couldn't confirm or deny other rumors about Camila and her family — the landlord said they only know that the family "owes us," as per The U.S. Sun.
