Critics Are Convinced Performing For Trump Has Negatively Impacted Carrie Underwood’s Career

Footage of a recent Carrie Underwood performance has some people speculating that her career has flopped after she chose to perform at President Donald Trump’s inauguration last year. Carrie has not outright voiced support for Trump or his MAGA movement, but some Trump critics feel that the fact that she sang for him at his inauguration tells them everything they need to know about her.

In the months that followed, rumors about Carrie’s role on American Idol emerged. Reports suggested that the show’s producers were worried that having her on the show would be too divisive after the inauguration performance. Some critics online threatened to boycott the show, and some former fans have said they no longer listen to her music. So, when footage appeared to show Carrie performing in front of a small group of people, the internet was quick to assume that her Trump ties had something to do with it.

A viral post claimed that Carrie now has to perform for ‘tens of people’ due to her association with MAGA.

In the video, Carrie sang Before He Cheats on stage. The audience was not totally visible in the clip, but it looked relatively small. It definitely wasn’t an arena show or anything, at least. On X, someone shared the clip and captioned it with, “Carrie Underwood used to sell out large arenas, went full MAGA, and now performs for tens of people on a golf course.” Yikes.

As of July 7, the post has garnered more than six million views. After seeing the clip from this performance, one critic wrote, “It’s time to quit, she should be embarrassed.”

“Poor choices have dire consequences,” another person commented. “She sold her soul to the devil for a quick buck.”

Trump critics were not exactly surprised to see the footage. They already think Trump ruins everything. “EVERYTHING Trump touches dies…EVERYTHING,” a third critic concluded.

And someone else even quoted Carrie’s song to suggest that maybe she’ll consider the impact of showing any amount of support for Trump in the future. “Maybe next time she’ll think before she speaks,” they wrote.

But some fans argued the post was misinformation.

For one, they argued that the video didn’t even show the entire audience at the event. But also, it wasn’t exactly a typical concert. On July 4, Carrie performed at the John Deere Classic golf tournament in Illinois as part of the John Deere Classic’s Concerts on the Course Series.

According to a review published by the Quad-City Times, a “huge crowd” of up to 12,000 people watched the performance even though the audience looked rather small in the clip.

The fact that Carrie performed here doesn’t mean that her career is failing, many of her fans argued after the clip went viral. “This is you taking something out of context and relating it to politics, you sound ridiculous,” one person wrote on X.

Someone else said, “This was for a small event. She also didn’t ‘go MAGA’. She simply sang America the Beautiful for AMERICA not for Trump.”

Even when Carrie posted about the event, critics remained skeptical.

Carrie’s post made it clear that her performance was after a golf tournament. But that clearly didn’t make the turnout seem less embarrassing to some of her critics.

Carrie captioned her video about the event with, “Lots of fun on the course at the @JDCLASSIC this past weekend! Thanks again to all that came out! 🇺🇸”

She still received multiple comments about Trump and MAGA in response. “Crowd??? 😂😂😂🤡” one commenter wrote. “That’s what happens when you are a Trump lover…Career ending.”

And someone else said, “Sold your soul to the devil. Your one big hit is about you getting revenge on an ex that cheated, yet you support a man that cheated on all of his wives.”
