Every parent has to decide how to handle social media on their own terms. When is it OK for kids to be on it? When the parent in question is already a public figure, the issue has another wrinkle. Sometimes people feel entitled to pictures of celebrities’ private lives.
One way to combat this is to have an Instagram account for your child. This gives famous parents a chance to control the narrative. It also sets the child up for future influencer deals. Here are seven celeb parents who decided to make their child an Instagram account.
Heidi Montag & Spencer Pratt
Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt rose to fame on the hit MTV reality series The Hills which ran from 2006 to 2010. Heidi and Spencer eloped to Mexico in 2008. The following year, they held a second ceremony in Pasadena, California. They briefly separated in 2010. In 2017 their son Gunner was born followed by brother Ryker in 2022. Both boys have their own Instagram accounts so fans can watch them grow up, just like their celebrity parents did on reality television.
DJ Khaled & Nicole Tuck
DJ Khaled and Nicole Tuck love being parents. "God blessed me with two beautiful boys, an amazing queen and mother and blessed me to be a great father," Khaled gushed to People in April 2021. "This is the best feeling I ever felt in my life because it's pure. There's really no words you can describe the feeling unless you're a mother or father. It's just the truth. It's a feeling that they haven't even made a word for yet, and it's unbelievable."
Their son Asahd was born on October 23, 2016, and their son Aalam was born in 2020. Both already have Instagram accounts with impressive follower counts. Asahd has 1.5 million followers and Aalam has 200,000.
Michael & Nicole Phelps
Michael and Nicole Phelps, the former Olympian and former Miss USA contestant power couple, have their hands full. They have four boys Boomer, 7, Beckett, 6, Maverick, 4, and baby Nico. Boomer, Beckett, and Maverick have Instagram accounts but they are not updated often. It does not appear that Nico has gotten one yet. Fans will have to be patient because raising four kids is a ton of work and there isn't always time for the 'Gram.
Snooki & Jionni LaValle
Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and Jionni LaValle are another couple who met while filming a reality television series. They first met on season three of Jersey Shore. They share three children, Lorenzo, 11 Giovanna, 9, and Angelo, 4. Giovanna has her own Instagram account on which she shows off her cheerleading skills. She has big dreams and plans to continue to compete.
Ice T & Coco Austin
Ice T and Coco Austin first met in 2001 on the set of a music video and were “married” just a couple months later. The marriage wasn't a legal one until 2006. Chanel Nicole was born on November 28, 2015. Her parents set up an Instagram account for her soon after her birth.
Coco is thankful for the kindness of Chanel’s followers. "I noticed that on Chanel’s page, there has not been one hater on her page," she stated to E! News. "On her Instagram, it's all Chanel lovers. What I've noticed on my page is that I’m the one with haters. I'm the one that people want to get on. It's nice to go to a page and have not one negative thing on there. I didn't know it was out there, but she's now up to 400,000 followers and knowing that they are all lovers, it makes me believe that there's hope for humanity."
Serena Williams & Alexis Ohanian
Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian first met at a hotel in Rome when the tennis legend invited the internet entrepreneur to eat breakfast with her in 2015. Flash forward to today and the married couple have two daughters, Alexis and Adira. Both girls have their own Instagram accounts but only Alexis’ has pictures. She is the oldest, so that makes sense. Time will tell if mom and dad will update baby sister’s account in the future.
Gabrielle Union & Dwyane Wade
Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade’s daughter Kaavia James was born in 2018. Not too long after her arrival, her parents created an Instagram account for her. She goes by the nickname Shady Baby. She even has her own clothing and bag line. It's never too early to start your own business.
