Chad Michael Murray is reflecting on his brief marriage to Sophia Bush. In a recent interview with The Cut, the actor took a trip down memory lane of the time with his former One Tree Hill costar, saying he was just "a baby" during their marriage.
“I didn’t know up, down, left, right,” the actor said, speaking on his sudden rise to fame and the short-lived marriage that ended five months after they tied the knot. Chad was 24 and Sophia was 23 at the time that they got married.
“You move out there, and you go, 'Well, what am I supposed to do now? Get married? That’s exciting!'" he added. The actors met on the set of One Tree Hill, a drama series that ran for nine seasons on CW starting in 2003.
In April 2005, during the second season of the show, the two got married. Just five months later, they started the process of separation. Sophia requested an annulment, accusing Chad of fraud. It was denied. Their divorce became finalized in December 2006.

In 2015, Chad went on to marry Sarah Roemer. They have three children together, two daughters and a son. “I always told myself, ‘I’m doing this for my future wife and kids,’ and now here they are,” he said. “It’s been the greatest chapter of my life.”
As far as Sophia, she has also been vocal about her short-lived marriage to Chad. “I was a very naïve 21-year-old kid,” she said in a 2021 interview on the Inside of You podcast. “And that’s all there is to it.”
“I think lots of people do stupid [expletive] before their prefrontal cortexes are fully formed — and they’re not until they’re 26,” she added. "So you do the math on my timeline. I literally didn’t have a whole brain.”
In 2018, she also told Andy Cohen that the marriage was "not a thing I actually really wanted to do." Chad responded via a statement that he "would never marry for any reason but love." "He has completely moved on and doesn't feel the need to engage in this type of behavior," the statement added.
She went on to marry Grant Hughes in June 2022. The actress filed for divorce in 2023. She is currently dating Ashlyn Harris, a former professional soccer player and actor.
"I think he’s a good guy," one person commented. "Too much is brought up from 20 plus years ago with him. I think he’s more than grown since all that and is a family man now. Can we let the whole him and Sophia thing rest?!"
