Cher knows that some people are critical of her relationship, but she doesn’t seem to care about that. The main reason Cher’s relationship is so controversial is that she’s 40 years older than her boyfriend, Alexander “AE” Edwards, whom she has been dating for about three years now.
Apparently, regardless of what the haters think, her 80th birthday seems like the perfect time to make the relationship more official. An insider recently told the Mirror that Cher “has set her heart on walking down the aisle with him around the time of her landmark birthday in May.”
Cher reportedly doesn’t care about their age difference.
While their age difference has led to minor misunderstandings, Cher has suggested it’s really not as big a deal as people assume. The Mirror‘s source confirmed that “Cher doesn’t give a hoot about their [40-year] age difference” and claimed that Cher and Alexander are “both ready to commit to each other.”
According to the source, from Cher’s perspective, there’s no better time to tie the knot than her 80th birthday. “She sees her upcoming celebration at turning 80 as the perfect time for her and Alexander to seal the deal,” the insider claimed.
However, others claim she doesn’t plan on getting married.
If Cher wants to get married, good for her. But it sounds like marriage might not actually be her priority. Per E! News, Cher’s rep told The Gossip List that there are “absolutely no plans for a wedding in her future.” Her rep also told Page Six that the marriage rumors are simply “not true.”
But regardless of her plans for the future, Cher seems happy in her relationship with Alexander. During a CBS Mornings interview in November, she said people don’t really need to understand her relationship. “Whatever. They’re not living my life,” she said of the critics. “Nobody knows what goes on between us, but we just have a blast.”
And when Gayle King asked her if the age gap had ever created issues for her and her boyfriend, she said, “No, thank God. He just says, ‘You get older, but your spirit is younger.'”
And for those who wonder what a 39-year-old and a 79-year-old would even have in common, Cher also has answer. “We laugh all the time, you know?” she said. “I just love him. I think he’s beautiful. He’s really talented.”
