Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have shared some important news about their 6-year-old son, Miles. On July 31, 2024, Chrissy took to Instagram to let her followers know that Miles was recently diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes after he was hospitalized for a totally different illness. Along with this update, Chrissy also shared how they've been adjusting as a family, including a book that has helped explain what's going on to Miles.

Chrissy decided to share the diagnosis after fans noticed that Miles appeared to be wearing a blood glucose monitor on his arm in a photo taken of him while watching the Olympics in Paris with his family.
"A lot of you noticed something a little special about a photo I posted a few days ago — Luna, Miles and I celebrating Simone and Team USA," Chrissy wrote in her post. "Miles had his arm up, and soooo many of you reached out to say the most beautiful and incredible words I have ever witnessed on this platform."
After acknowledging that "things could be worse," she went on to share the story of Miles' diagnosis.
"A couple weeks ago, our Miles was sick, in the hospital, with a terrible case of shigella, an intestinal infection caused by bacteria in food or water. A lot of his friends were also sick with it, as they went to the same camp and well, it happens!" she wrote.
However, Miles' blood work showed that something else was up.
Chrissy said that Miles is in the "honeymoon period" of the disease right now — which, according to WebMD, is when a patient still has enough beta cells to make the insulin they need to keep their blood sugar stable, but that won't last forever.
"Last night we gave him his first shot of insulin and here we go! A different, new world for us and we are certainly learning so much on the fly," she wrote.

"It helps Miles so much to know so many other people are going through the same thing and he is not alone," she added.
Chrissy also shared that certain things along the way have been helping Miles adjust to his new normal, including a children's book called Year One With Type One, which she said made her cry so hard she had to leave the room!
She also met up with a celebrity friend with the same diagnosis, according to what she told a fan in the comments of her Instagram post who suggested she talk to Nick Jonas.
"Nick was so kind to him!! We were so lucky to run into him," Chrissy wrote.
It's good to hear that Miles and his family are getting so much support during this time. It can be a scary adjustment, but it sounds like Miles is already off to a great start.
