When it comes to parents grieving the death of a child, there is no getting over that type of intense and overwhelming pain. The only thing you can do is find a way to keep their memory alive in the healthiest manner possible.
Today’s story occurs just outside a large piece of land in Richmond, California, owned by Chevron. Anyone who passed through the property was likely just going to work at the energy company as it wasn’t a typical residential roadway where individuals visited or took a stroll.
This is why people started to pay attention when a memorial site suddenly popped up one morning on the property. It was a total mystery as no one knew who put it there as it was not affiliated with Chevron and nobody ever saw a gardener or individual tending the flowers and other items.
According to NBC News, “the man behind an elaborate roadside memorial outside a Chevron property” remained a mystery for over 10 years until the grounds needed an upgrade and the company left a note on the memorial site asking whoever was tending to it to call them.
The news outlet reports that it was then when a man named Ray Olson got in touch with Chevron. He had created the memorial to honor the memory of his only son, also named Raymond, who at the age of 22 years old was killed by a drunk driver.

NBC News explains that the “loyal father” would come and visit and tend to the memorial in the middle of the night so no one would see him. He was afraid that Chevron would force him to take down his tribute to his son or move it elsewhere.
