What to Know
People have so many questions after hearing the way President Donald Trump described his wife, First Lady Melania Trump, and their son, Barron Trump. During a recent speech at an event for military moms, Trump praised his wife for being an amazing mother—and seemingly forgot that Barron is his son too?
Granted, people have long suspected that the president was not all that involved in raising his children. But still, when he described Barron as Melania’s son, it rubbed people the wrong way.
Trump said that Melania is mom to a tall “little boy.”

That part of the description also weirded people out because Barron is 20 years old. To be fair, Trump did clarify that Barron is “little” to them. Besides, he’s approaching 80 himself. But the way in which he talked about Barron also sounded a little…detached, as if he’s not Barron’s father.
“Melania is an incredible mom,” he said in a clip shared by FactPost on X. “She has a little boy who’s quite tall. A little boy to us, but he’s quite tall… And he’s great, Barron. She takes great care of him.”
Aside from the “little boy” thing, people immediately noticed how Trump said his wife takes care of their son, like he’s not really involved. And the fact that he said “she” has a son rather than “we” have a son made it feel extra weird to critics online.
So, people had lots of questions.
‘She’ has a little boy? Is Barron not his son too? https://t.co/cNLK2JkxSs

“Does Melania’s very tall boy have a father?” one critic questioned in the comments. And someone else asked, “Does he realize that he is talking about his son? It doesn’t sound like it!”
People could think of a couple of reasons why Trump might word his speech this way. Maybe it’s just because of his rigid gender roles and extremely hands-off parenting. “Trump talks like he wasn’t involved in that process and it’s not the first time he’s said that,” one commenter pointed out. Someone else noticed, “Always ‘she’ never ‘we.’ it’s a running theme.”
But maybe it’s a sign of dementia, others speculated (as they often do these days). “Does Trump forget he is Barron’s father?” another critic wrote.
Either way, people found it strange. “Who talks about their children like this?” someone questioned. “It is quite bizarre.” Another commenter added, “It is me or is it weird that he talked like someone he knows from a distance or in passing?” Others argued that Barron “doesn’t seem to claim Barron.”
Critics also complained that Trump was talking about his son as if he were a toddler.
That's your son, trump.

Several of them mentioned that Barron is actually old enough to serve in the military (and there have been many calls for him to enlist lately amid the Iran war). “He’s not a ‘little boy’. He’s in college,” one of the critics argued. “A grown a– man. Send him to the military, just like our young men.”
Another commenter wrote, “He’s an adult, for crying out loud. Not a ‘little boy’ who needs his mom to take ‘great care of him.'” Melania has also been accused of babying Barron and talking about him as if he’s a toddler. In February, she said, “You need to be there for a child nonstop, especially when they need you, especially at that age that Barron is.”
