As parents, we often have to trust our guts when they’re trying to tell us that something just doesn’t feel right. Sadly, the world is filled with people who don’t have our best interests at heart, so it pays to be conscious of that inner voice that tries to tell us when something might be wrong.
Harry and his 9-year-old daughter Annie would routinely visit a convenience store near their house. Whether they needed a loaf of bread or some juice, they would set off on a walk together to hit up the store for whatever household items were on their list.
One of the older store clerks had always been particularly kind to Annie during their regular visits. He almost always offered her candy from behind the counter, and even though Annie’s dad thought it was a kind gesture, there was something that nagged him about it.
The next time the pair were in the store and the older cashier offered Annie some candy, Harry promptly asked the store clerk if he could have some as well. The older gentleman gave him a weird look and told him that “candy was for children.”
Harry tried not to think too much of this comment, but he couldn’t help but feel a bit worried when he noticed that Annie’s behavior changed for a few hours after she had eaten the piece of candy that the store clerk had given her.

Later that night, Harry received an unexpected phone call from another clerk at the local store. The clerk wanted to let him know that he had found some photos of a little girl in the older man’s locker and since he interacted with his daughter, he felt that he had a right to know.
