The 2023 Primetime Emmys awards ceremony was postponed due to the writers strike. It finally happened on January 15, 2024. The event celebrated the rich history of television and reunited cast members of many of favorite shows, including Grey’s Anatomy. Ellen Pompeo appeared alongside former and current cast members such as Katherine Heigl and Chandra Wilson. Ellen brought a special plus-one to the big show, her 14-year-old daughter Stella Luna.
Ellen was thrilled to take her daughter to work with her. Her kids normally stay out of the limelight so this was a treat for fans as well. Ellen posted about the night on Instagram and said she had a great time.
Ellen has been married to Chris Ivery since 2007. They share three children Stella 14, Sienna May, 9, and Eli Christopher, 6. Running for 19 seasons, Grey’s Anatomy is the longest-running primetime medical drama. It’s been a big part of Ellen’s life so it was nice to celebrate it and share this with her daughter.
Ellen’s Instagram posts also acknowledged her glam squad. It takes many people to get stars looking glamorous. “Thank you again, to everyone that made this happen yesterday! We had the best night ♀️,” Ellen gushed.

Ellen looked beautiful in a sheer Monique Lhuillier sparkly silver blouse and a black silk maxi-skirt. She accessorized with a black necktie and diamond stud earrings. Her hair was pulled back in a messy ponytail. Stella rocked a black strapless jumpsuit and wore her hair down.
Ellen also kept it real on the ‘Gram. She shared a video of her arrival to the awards show in her Instagram Stories. She had to lie down flat so she didn’t wrinkle her skirt. Ellen joked “this is like Pilates” as Stella smiled. “Oh the glamor,” Ellen quipped.
During the award ceremony, Ellen and Katherine Heigl, Justin Chambers, James Pickens Jr., and Chandra Wilson presented the award for outstanding supporting actor in a limited or anthology series or movie. The actors also celebrated Grey’s history. "When the first episode of Grey's Anatomy aired in March 2005, I'm not sure Shonda Rhimes knew that she had created a show that will have a lasting influence on television and create lifelong friendships," Ellen mused.
Ellen’s kids influenced her decision to stay on the show for 19 seasons. "For me, personally, a healthy home life was more important than career,” she explained on the podcast Jemele Hill Is Unbothered. “I didn't grow up with a particularly happy childhood. So the idea that I have this great husband and these three beautiful children [and] a happy home life was really something I needed to complete, to close the hole in my heart."
Ellen is stepping back from Grey’s for its 20th season. While she is no longer the lead character, she will still act as an executive producer and do the opening and closing voiceover. She recently tried to watch the whole series with Stella, but it proved to be too much.
"At first, I was like, 'Oh, this is so amazing, and we're going to watch it together,'" Ellen explained to Variety. "Then it was episode after episode after episode, and I was like, 'I don't have the stamina for this!' I filmed all these episodes; I can't now go back and watch it again," she concluded.
