‘Brady Bunch’ Actress Eve Plumb Thinks Her Iconic Role Saved Her From The Child Star Curse

Eve Plumb, best known for her role as Jan Brady in The Brady Bunch, has shared how the beloved sitcom not only shaped her childhood but also saved her from the pitfalls often associated with being a child star. Eve, who began her acting career at the tender age of 6, revealed that she never felt neglected or victimized by the pressures of fame, contrary to the common narrative of the child star curse. Speaking to Fox News Digital, the 65-year-old actress reflected on her experience transitioning from the iconic TV series to life beyond the Brady household.

“After The Brady Bunch, I went back to high school,” Eve recounted. “It was a private school. I was a cheerleader, and I just did the best I could in school and then planned to go to Cal State Northridge for theater arts. I didn’t feel ostracized or pandered to in any way. But maybe I’m just unaware.”

Eve’s journey from child star to adulthood was marked by a series of opportunities and experiences that helped her break free from the constraints of typecasting. One pivotal moment came when she landed a role in the TV film Dawn: Portrait of a Teenage Runaway (1976), followed by its sequel, Alexander: The Other Side of Dawn (1977). Portraying a troubled teenager navigating the harsh realities of life, Eve found herself moving away from her Brady persona and embracing more mature roles.

“What happened for me was very fortunate,” Eve explained. “I auditioned for it and tested for it back in the day … And I got the role. That was the giant leap that sent me from being Jan Brady to being an adult actress.” Now, as Eve auctions off personal items from her “very Brady” collection, including scripts and memorabilia, she reflects on the lasting impact of her time on the iconic sitcom.
