No one goes into a marriage thinking of its demise. There’s still a ton of shame around getting a divorce. Gavin Rossdale admitted to feeling this way on the March 21, 2024, episode of Amy and T.J., a podcast hosted by Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes.
Gavin never intended for his sons to grow up in a “broken home.” He wanted to protect them from that as he is a child of divorce himself. Thankfully, he has been able to make peace with this and aims to be a present co-parent with his ex-wife Gwen Stefani.
"I never thought I'd ever get divorced. So there's a simple shame in my life," Gavin stated. "I feel bad for my kids, that's it. I wish I could have found a way to not have that in their lives."
British musician Gavin Rossdale first met “Hollaback Girl” singer Gwen Stefani in 1995. His band Bush and her band No Doubt performed at a KROQ event. They dated for several years and got married in 2002. They share three boys, Kingston, 17, Zuma, 15, and Apollo, 10. When they divorced in 2016, there were rumors of infidelity. Many alleged Gavin cheated on Gwen with their nanny, but neither have publicly confirmed this.

Gavin knows part of this guilt comes from his own experiences. "It wasn't fun for me to come from a broken home …," Gavin explained. "It can be quite debilitating for kids … the overriding thing is you don't want to let your kids down.”
"The biggest thing would be when you see the kids that sometimes there's a loss. It'd be nice if there was more of a connection with the person who made them with me," he went on to say.
He prides himself in being a present father. "I go to a lot of events where there's 'the other team,' so to speak and I just feel really proud of myself in my consistency as a father," Gavin stated. "I know in my heart that I'm super consistent."
He refuses to talk bad about Gwen and didn’t even mention her name specifically on the podcast. "Less said, soonest mended and I said nothing," he explained. "I'm handcuffed because I would never want to overly say anything negative about their mom. That's just not right."
Despite the heartache, Gavin has been able to find peace after divorce. "I think that there's no accidents in life so you are where you're meant to be. So I don't live in regret," he mused. "Life just unfolds how it should."
Both Gavin and Gwen have moved on romantically since their divorce. Gwen married country music star Blake Shelton in 2021. They both were coaches on the hit NBC show The Voice. Gavin is currently in a relationship with fellow musician Xhoana.
