LaMelo Ball Refuses To Change His Baby’s Diapers Because It’s ‘Not My Job’ And Parents Are Furious

People are calling an NBA player out for his “loser behavior” after he answered a simple question about parenting. In January 2026, LaMelo Ball, 25, and his partner, influencer Analicia Chaves, 37, welcomed a child named LaOne Ball. During an “Inside the NBA” interview, one of the hosts, Ernie Johnson, asked LaMelo about changing his 9-month-old’s diapers.

LaMelo asserted that changing diapers is “not (his) job,” and people cannot believe he actually admitted this. It seems like Ernie gave him the opportunity to frame his response differently, but he doubled down. And critics online say it’s not the flex he seems to think it is.

LaMelo said his partner is the one who changes their child’s diapers.

“Nah, my girl do all that,” the Minnesota Timberwolves star answered when asked about changing diapers. He continued, “She do all that, you know what I’m saying? We got a good game plan going on, so I know what I gotta do to bring to the table. She knows what she gotta do to bring to the table.”

Ernie responded, “You don’t know what you’re missing. I’m telling you that.” LaMelo interjected with, “I did it before, you feel me?”

He added, “I definitely did it before; it’s just not my job, you know what I’m saying? It’s not my job.”

Other parents did not understand what he was saying, actually.

They could not relate. The fact that he said it’s “not his job” when it’s just part of being a parent was truly baffling to a lot of people online. And it’s not just his hands-off approach to parenting that rubbed people the wrong way. It’s also the way he framed it during this conversation.

“There’s a way to be like ‘yeah I’m out here doing this for the family, she’s at home with our baby, I wish I was at home more to do all that stuff with them’ and then there’s ‘that’s not my job,’ one person wrote on Reddit. “What a loser.”

“It’s disappointing that in 2026 we still have dads proudly admitting that they don’t parent their kids,” someone else wrote. “I say this as a dad myself, I can’t imagine just going ‘not my job to any part of parenting.”

“I think if that is also your baby it’s your job,” a third critic added.

A few people likened it to dads who supposedly “babysit” their own kids.

“Same guy who will say ‘I’m babysitting’ if he ever has to look after the kid on his own,” another person commented.

People also questioned why he seemed so… proud when he said this. “Imagine telling the world voluntarily that you are a s— parent,” someone commented. “He should be embarrassed but I have a feeling he won’t be!”

Several people made the argument that he could “at least lie about it” instead of proudly asserting that he doesn’t see this basic aspect of parenting as his responsibility.

“Someone who won’t even change his own kid’s diaper is a straight-up loser,” someone else argued. “Thinking it makes him look big and bad when instead it makes him look even more like a b—- baby. Please read the room and help your partner. It doesn’t matter if you provide the money, it’s like they’re using it as an excuse to ditch out.”

At the very least, however, the anger-inducing clip could serve as a teachable moment for some parents. “I will be showing this to my son in the morning, explaining why this is wrong,” one parent asserted.
