Cameron Mathison and his wife Vanessa Mathison have decided to split after 22 years of marriage. In a joint statement shared on Instagram on July 31, 2024, the All My Children and General Hospital actor, 54, and his wife shared that they "have made the difficult decision to part ways."
Cameron and Vanessa tied the knot on July 27, 2002, almost exactly 22 years ago. They share two children: Lucas, 21 and Leila, 18. In their statement, they noted that their children "have been and will continue to be our highest priority."
"We enter this new chapter with deep love, kindness and respect for each other," the statement read. "We hold gratitude in our hearts for the wonderful years we shared together."
They also indicated that their marriage is not ending on bad terms, adding that "we will forever share in our devotion and love for [our children]."
"We remain friends, and both wish the best for one another," the statement continued. The statement was shared in an image carousel that also featured several photos of Cameron and Vanessa together.
The day before they announced their split, Cameron shared several photos of his kids. "Summer photo dump☺," Cameron captioned the images. "Last few weeks before I’m an official empty nester ."
Before they officially announced their divorce, some of Cameron's Instagram followers noticed something weird about the photos: Vanessa was not in any of them.
"Where is his wife?" one person commented.
Another wrote, "Where's Vanessa? Hope she's ok."

On July 31, Us Weekly reported that Cameron had recently opened up about the "new chapters" in his family's lives. The conversation occurred on July 24, a week before Cameron and Vanessa announced their split.
At the time, Cameron told the outlet that "it’s like a new chapter for everybody in our life. We’re just trying to figure it all out."
He said Vanessa was "really on a self-exploratory kind of phase right now, doing a lot of really cool stuff for her."
"She’s learned the bass and she’s back to her modeling days and she’s traveling and doing things, and I’m really encouraging that. And yeah, we’re just trying to figure it all out," he said at the time.
In June, Cameron spoke about how competing on Dancing With the Stars might impact his marriage while on Cheryl Burke's Sex, Lies and Spray Tans podcast.
"It wasn't great timing," he revealed, adding that he and Vanessa had "recently gone through a bunch of stuff."
He joked about being worried about dancing with Edyta Śliwińska because she "didn't wear a lot of clothes" and he and his wife were "going through a little bit of a challenge at that time."
But "Vanessa was a trooper," Cameron said at the time. "I was off in LA spending time with this beautiful woman dressed up, against her, sweating with her five hours a day rehearsing, and then doing all the press and touring stuff together, and it was really hard."
