Eating out as a family can be difficult. Working in a restaurant full of apathetic parents is equally grueling. One Georgia restaurant is taking preventive measures to make sure parents are on their A-game when dining out.
The Toccoa Riverside Restaurant in Blue Ridge charges parents who do not watch their kids. It is listed right on the menu. Many parents do not agree with this policy and made their opinions known in their online reviews.
The menu discloses the charge. "Adult surcharge: For adults unable to parent," it reads. This does not mean that parents were happy to see it on their bills.
"If you have children, absolutely avoid this place at all costs," warned one angry customer. "Holy moly — the most disrespectful owner made a huge scene in front of the entire restaurant because our children were 'running through the restaurant' — they were down by the river.. we were told we need to 'go to Burger King and Walmart' and that we were bad parents. They have a $50 surcharge for 'bad children'. We were a group of 21 and our server was AMAZING and was overly apologetic. Terrible business practice, we will never be back

They were not the only ones. "The owner came out and told me he was adding $50 to my bill because of my children's behavior," chimed in another angry parent. "My kids watched a tablet until the food arrived, ate their food and my wife took them outside while I waited and paid the bill. Disappointed by the experience."
It is also important to note that many of the reviews also mention the good food and pretty scenery. Maybe this location is only good for date nights and not family dinners.
