Man Convinced Women He Was Their Soulmate But His Goal Was Not ‘Happily Ever After’

If you caught Netflix’s The Tinder Swindler, a British documentary about an Israeli conman who used a dating app to connect with and emotionally manipulate individuals into giving him large quantities of money, this episode of 60 Minutes Australia works to expose a conman of a similar nature.

Upon first glance, Grant Greentree is someone who single women on the hunt for a potential mate might find attractive and charming, but 60 Minutes Australia warns that he is definitely not someone you want to get involved with.

Unfortunately, Kim d’Alquen from Melbourne, Australia, didn’t make it out of her romantic relationship with Grant unscathed.

“I felt really proud. I was marrying … my dream guy,” Kim remembers. “He was everything I wanted. He was emotionally supportive. He was really loyal. He made me feel special.”

Unbeknownst to Kim at the time, she was actually Grant’s third wife. His previous two wives had applied for apprehended violence orders against him amid claims of physical and financial abuse.

Kim equates her life with Grant to a “nightmare,” and nothing at all like she’d imagined. The two met on the dating app Bumble, and he went by the name Maclane. And even though Kim recalls that he came on rather strong and was quite boastful about all of his alleged properties around the world, he seemed like a loyal guy, and the two hit it off.

One of the first signs of financial mistrust was when Grant took Kim away on a romantic tropical holiday, and when it came time to pay the bill of nearly $5,000, he asked for Kim’s credit card.

Kim notes that once she received a settlement from her divorce and the sale of her house, Grant’s attitudes and actions began to change.
