Hunter Biden has insisted that there are a decent number of closeted gay Republicans in Washington DC. Although he hasn’t exactly shared how he knows this, he doubled down on his claims and acted like it’s hardly a secret during an appearance on The Don Lemon Show.
Hunter has said that these unnamed Republicans’ sexualities would not be an issue, if not for the fact that they take out their “self-hate” and internalized homophobia on everyone else.
Hunter said this is the reason Republicans are so “obsessed” with the LGBTQ community.
“Why are Republicans so obsessed with gay people?” Don asked Hunter on the show, noting that Republican men seem particularly “obsessed.” Hunter was prepared to share his theory.
“I don’t know whether you know this to be true, but I know it to be true,” Hunter responded. “There is a contingency, a cabal… of gay Republican men that are closeted and have an enormous amount of self-hate, I believe.”
Hunter went on to say that “we all know who they are … in DC.” Don then asked Hunter whether Lindsey Graham was one of them. Hunter answered with confidence: “Of course he was… Everybody knew that Lindsey Graham was gay.” Other people have also made this claim, though Graham denied it.
Hunter added that there’s “a whole list of other” closeted gay Republicans.

Who is on that list, you might ask? Hunter declined to say, joking that he is “already in enough lawsuits.”
When Don asked him to name names, Hunter reiterated that he wasn’t going to, but then said, “Are you asking me if Josh Hawley is gay? Are you asking me if Stephen Miller is gay? I don’t know. I don’t know. I really don’t know. Are you asking me if Speaker Johnson’s gay? Personally, I don’t know.”
“Give me another minute, and I’ll come up with six more names,” he added.
Don shared a clip from this conversation on Instagram, and some commenters shared their thoughts and theories. “I feel like the reason they do this is because they can’t live their authentic self, they’ve grown up being told that it’s something wrong, and if they can’t live openly, they resent people who can,” one commenter wrote.
Someone else said, “Drafting legislation against your own community is top level self hate. And that applies to any and everyone who does that including DEI matters as well.”
The topic also came up when Hunter was on the ‘I’ve Had It’ podcast.
The episode in which Hunter presented his theory on gay Republicans was shared on Saturday, July 18.
“Everybody knows there is this closeted gay mafia, largely Republican, that exists in Washington, D.C., and everybody knows every single one of them, who is gay,” he claimed.
On the surface, this might not make a whole lot of sense given the amount of anti-LGBTQ rhetoric within the Republican Party, but Hunter explained why he thinks this is. “The only reason that is relevant is because I believe that internal conflict creates so much vitriol inside a person that they take it out on the rest of the world, and they do,” he said.
He added, “So what they do is… their whole lives they’ve been closeted and so you have this black ball inside yourself, this like blackened heart about the fact that you can’t be who you want to be, so you take it out on everyone else. And these men, largely men, have done exactly that, and everybody knows who they are.”
