Amid the controversy surrounding her and her husband’s resort project in Albania, Ivanka Trump took to social media to share photos from her latest luxury vacation. Her family recently traveled to Iceland. Given that pretty much all of her posts garner lots of criticism, it’s unclear what motivated her to share her vacation photos publicly.
Although some commenters seemed genuinely happy for her and left positive comments on her posts about Iceland, someone else wrote, “Omg please stop…,” which is probably not the type of comment you want to get on a post about your family vacation. And that wasn’t even the worst one. Someone simply commented with the vomiting emoji, and plenty of others mocked Ivanka for “discovering” more land (that she obviously did not discover).
When talking about her and her husband’s controversial resort project, Ivanka acted like she discovered Sazan Island.
People were (and continue to be) disgusted by this. When talking to podcaster David Senra about her resort plans, Ivanka said, “We were on a friend’s boat, and we stopped for a swim, effectively, that’s how we found it. We swam to the islands, we went on a bike barefoot all the way up to the top, and we were just captivated.”
So, when Ivanka shared photos from Iceland’s Blue Lagoon, critics asked her if she “found” and “discovered” that too. “Another ‘discovery’?” one critic commented on Ivanka’s Instagram post.
Someone else wrote, “Did you know Ivanka DISCOVERED Iceland!” Some people even asked her whether she has plans to buy (or steal) it. “Did you swim there and decide to buy it…” another commenter added. “Something else you want to take,” a fourth critic noted.
Obviously, these critics were not impressed by her trip (or her resort project in Albania).
The fact that Ivanka chose to post this amid the ongoing controversy is… interesting.
She’s been dealing with a lot of backlash (and there have been protests against the project), so posting about her family’s latest luxury vacation definitely seems like a choice. Besides, people call her out for flaunting her wealth basically every time she posts something. So, she responds by… continuing to flaunt her wealth? OK.
In the comments, people urged her to read the room. One commenter wrote, “Take a hint – people don’t want you in their countries.” It’s arguably not even a hint at this point. People have made their views pretty clear. Someone else simply said, “Leave Iceland alone.”
And, of course, people didn’t love the fact that Ivanka was bragging about her recent trip.
Some people think she could at least pretend to care about the lives of ordinary Americans. Like many of her other posts, this one got a lot of “We can’t afford groceries” comments.
“So glad you and your family can travel and enjoy so much while others are struggling to put food on their table and gas in their cars,” one critic commented. “I really wish you would stop throwing your privilege in our face!!!!!”
“Wild how our country suffers,” another commenter added. “Look at what their family shows off.”
“True family values on display again!” someone else concluded. “Sociopathic greed, corruption, and an utter separation from facts, decency.”
So, yeah, maybe it’s not the best time to share your vacation photos if you’re Ivanka Trump.
