JD Vance Says Gas Prices Are Higher Due To ‘Donald Trump’s Work’

You’ve probably heard President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance dismiss people’s concerns about the state of the economy (and blame Former President Joe Biden). They have repeatedly said that the Trump administration “inherited a mess.” But at a certain point, can they really keep blaming Biden? Vance tried to at a recent event, but some people online noticed that he almost inadvertently told the truth.

When attempting to explain today’s gas prices, Vance mentioned that they are what they are due to “Trump’s work.” He was trying to defend Trump when he said it, but people’s responses have basically been like, “Well, yeah… and that’s the problem.”

Vance suggested that the prices are because of Biden, not Trump’s war.

Since the start of the Iran war, gas prices in the U.S. have been going up. But at a recent event in North Carolina, the vice president tried to say that Biden is to blame, somehow. His explanation didn’t land in the way that he had probably hoped it would. Not only were people rolling their eyes at the fact that he’s still trying to blame Biden, but people also couldn’t get over his phrasing.

Vance said, “Joe Biden left us in a terrible situation, and the reason why gas prices are where they are today is because of Donald Trump’s work to get them lower, because in the Biden administration, they were crazy high.” Um, what?

On social media, people immediately fixed it for him: “The reason why gas prices are where they are today is because of Donald Trump’s work.”

And to that, people said “exactly.”

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker was among the people who reacted to this condensed version of what Vance said. “Well, yes,” he wrote. The Lincoln Project captioned the same clip with, “Wait let him cook.” And people are already thinking about how this clip of Vance would make for a great ad…for Democrats. “D— JD – out there blaming his boss for high gas prices like that,” a critic on X joked. And someone else thought of a way to make Vance’s comment more precise: “That is true. If ‘work’ means ‘war.'”

Somehow, Vance continued to blame Biden.

In his speech, he continued with, “The gas prices we’re seeing today are nothing like what we saw at the peak of the Biden administration because the president has set us up for energy dominance. And one of the lessons we all have to take away, frankly, every time we get involved in anything overseas – whether it’s in the Middle East or anywhere else – the thing we’ve got to take away from it is energy dominance and energy independence. We rely on our own people, rely on our own energy.”

The logic isn’t really holding up for people though. Because, somehow, in the eyes of Trump administration officials, Trump is seemingly never responsible for anything bad? Progressive commentator Alex Cole summed it up with, “So let me get this straight: When gas prices go up under Trump, it’s Biden’s fault. When they go down under Trump, it’s Trump’s genius.”

People even started joking about who the Trump administration might start blaming next. “Pretty soon they’ll blame George Washington for starting the country,” one X user joked. Another person chimed in with, “In other news. Abraham Lincoln caused inflation this month.”

Someone else speculated that “blaming Barack Obama will come next week.” And, of course, people are still wondering when the Trump administration might take accountability for anything. “When is Trump going to be responsible? In 2027?” another person questioned.
