The more Vice President JD Vance talks about his wife Usha Vance’s pregnancy, the more disturbed some critics get. Previously, JD suggested that he “persuaded” his wife to have a fourth child even though she wasn’t so sure she wanted to. Then, he later claimed that his wife changed her mind and truly wanted to have another child after Charlie Kirk’s death.
The comments he made during a recent podcast appearance are raising eyebrows again, as he revealed that he was the one who really wanted to have another child after Charlie’s death. He also said that he would keep having more kids if his wife wanted to — and people definitely have thoughts.
JD explained why Usha was hesitant.

You might remember how, back in March 2026, he said that he and Usha decided to have a fourth child because he’s very “persuasive.” This, of course, rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, because it sounded like he could have put pressure on his wife to try to get her to change her mind.
What he said during a recent appearance on the Relatable podcast with Allie Beth Stuckey did not make things any better. In fact, a lot of critics thought JD’s comments made it sound even worse.
While on the podcast, JD said that Usha wasn’t sure that she wanted to go through pregnancy for a fourth time. According to him, that’s why she was hesitant to expand their family.
In spite of this, he said it was an “ongoing conversation” for “a couple years.”
Explaining Usha’s perspective, he said, “Usha’s now, she just turned 40, and so it gets a little bit harder, right? The older you get, the harder it is on the body, so she was kind of like, ‘I don’t really know that I want to be pregnant again.'”
According to him, even during those earlier conversations, Usha would’ve loved to have a fourth child, but wasn’t sure she wanted to be pregnant again, especially now that she exists in the spotlight due to her husband’s job.
Previously, it was reported that Usha changed her mind after seeing how Charlie’s death impacted his wife, Erika Kirk. JD wrote in his book that “something changed” in his wife after “Erika told Usha between sobs that she regretted having only two kids with Charlie.”
But when asked about it on the Relatable podcast, JD said he wasn’t sure if this interaction actually changed his wife’s mind. Um, what? It did impact him, though.
“For me, at least, that like really drove it home,” JD said of Erika’s comment. “I don’t know that it had the same effect on Usha. I think Usha’s just much more analytical about this stuff and had kind of been getting there in her own way, but for me it was like, ‘We have to have a fourth baby.’ And she got pregnant like six weeks later.”
And if it were up to him, they’d have even more kids.

On social media, critics have called JD’s comments “gross” and “disrespectful” toward his wife, especially because of this particular comment he made: “I would have nine kids, but as you know, it takes two to tango.”
A lot of critics assumed that it’s easy for him to say he wants nine kids, given that he doesn’t have to deal with pregnancy or childbirth and is presumably far less involved in raising the kids as well.
“JD doesn’t have to raise the kids,” one critic wrote on X. “That’s why 9 is ok.” Someone else said, “you wouldn’t say that if you were the one with the uterus that has to a. carry all those babies and b. bleed for at least a month afterwards…and if you were the one who had to take care of multiple little kids…”
Some people could not believe that JD actually had the audacity to go on a podcast and say this stuff. “That’s an insult to his wife and maybe she doesn’t want 9 kids,” another critic commented. And a fourth added, “What in the absolute hell is wrong with this guy? He just does not know when to shut up.”
