Joanna Gaines Doesn’t Believe In Balance But Instead Prioritizes What’s Most Important

Even for the most accomplished humans, It is hard to balance it all. Joanna Gaines, who is a successful public figure, business owner, and mom has reframed the way she views the term “balanced.” She no longer tries to achieve the elusive benchmark.

What works for Joanna and husband Chip is instead prioritizing what is important to them. It all comes down to family for them. This philosophy has paid off as the couple has a successful business empire and just added a boutique hotel to the mix.

Joanna often gets asked how she manages everything. "When people ask the questions, 'How do you do what y'all are doing?' Or, 'How do you balance work with home?' we always say kind of the same thing, which is, 'Balance is this elusive thing. Good luck,'" Joanna explains. "Balance isn't something I think that's achievable in this lifetime. We're all trying our best."

Joanna and Chip reject the idea that the perfect life-balance is achievable. "I think somebody lied to us, when they created that thought,” Chip joked. Instead, they focus on their family.

"It's prioritizing, always waking up every morning and understanding what is your priority," she told People. "For us, it's obviously our relationship, and then our family and our children." Joanna and Chip share five children ranging in age from 5 to 18.

Joanna and Chip’s children prefer to stay out of the limelight. "What we have realized about our kids is, they want to feel as normal as possible. So they don't ever talk about any of it. I think they love the idea of flying under the radar, feeling normal," Joanna explained. "We get that. But maybe they'll be proud of this one day."
