Kathy Griffin didn’t imagine being single at this point in her life. The 63-year-old comedian filed for divorce from her estranged husband Randy Bick in December 2023. Now, nearly a year later, she admits that she’s not exactly over it. In fact, she remains “heartbroken” that her relationship didn’t work out. “The divorce is what’s kicking my a– mentally,” she told Page Six during a recent interview.
The reason Kathy’s divorce has been so devastating is because she thought she’d be with Randy, who is 18 years younger than she is, for the rest of her life. “I thought I was going to be with this guy forever,” Kathy told Page Six. “I’m heartbroken, I admit it.”
Kathy and Randy tied the knot on January 1, 2020. Kathy filed for divorce on December 28, 2023, just a few days before they would’ve celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary.
When she filed for divorce, Kathy cited “irreconcilable differences.” She appeared to share her thoughts on the divorce in a simple Instagram post on December 29, 2023. She posted an image with a black background and white text that read, “Well…s—. This sucks. – Kathy Griffin” It appears as though she still feels the same way about a year later, as she told Page Six: “I just didn’t think I’d be alone at this stage of the game, but hey, that’s on me. And I guess, I obviously have [to take] full responsibility.”

Although the divorce has been hard for her to deal with, Kathy said she hopes that her ex will find someone else who is a better match for him. “I know it’s cliché,” she told Page Six. “I wish him the best. I hope he meets somebody else. He just wasn’t the right guy for me. But he’ll be good for somebody else.”
Before getting married on the first day of 2020, Kathy and Randy dated for several years. They met in 2011, but Kathy thought their connection would amount to nothing more than a one-night stand, she previously told People.
“Well you know I didn’t think it would last [because] he’s 18 years younger than I am!” Kathy told People in 2016, adding that she thought Randy was “just a man-wh—, if you will.” In reality, though, Kathy found him to be “very sweet and very mellow.” They spent seven years together before briefly splitting up in 2018. At the time, Kathy announced the breakup on X (formerly Twitter).
“God help me, but I’m gonna be one of those people who announces a break up. After 7 years, Randy and I have decided to part ways. It’s not acrimonious and I will always adore him,” Kathy wrote on the platform at the time. After less than a year, though, they got back together.
Some of Kathy’s social media posts have hinted at the impact the divorce has had on her. She was clearly not eager to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year. On X, she wrote, “I’m getting divorced. F— Valentine’s Day and f— all of you. Did I say that? Thank God I have three shows this weekend. I’m going to make every member of the audience my personal Valentine regardless of sexual orientation.”
