Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon, who have been married for nearly 36 years, are actually cousins — technically. On Finding Your Roots, the PBS series investigating celebrities' ancestral histories, the couple found out that they're related. Kevin is Kyra's ninth cousin once removed, and although the revelation was a bit surprising, Kyra's reaction to it is what has really stood out.
The episode aired in 2013, yet Kyra's response resurfaced this year. When host Henry Louis Gates Jr. told Kyra that her husband is her cousin, she said, "See. I knew it! I knew it! I knew it! I knew it! I knew it!"
She had this reaction after expressing that she was worried the DNA analysis would show that she and her husband were related. She was right.
Kyra later revealed that the revelation was not shocking to her.

"I figured I was going to be related to Kevin Bacon — I mean, most white people are related, ultimately," she said at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour in 2017, reported Observer.
"I wasn’t surprised, honestly. Frankly, I figured that was part the reason that they wanted to do both of us. I had to act surprised," she said at the time.
Kyra and Kevin share two adult children, Sosie Bacon, 32, and Travis Bacon, 35. The couple met on the set of the movie Lemon Sky in 1987.
Kevin thought Kyra "was amazing" when he first met her, he told People in 2023, but Kyra was less impressed at first. Eventually, though, she agreed to go on a date with Kevin, and the date went really well.
Kyra recalled the positive feelings she had after their first date when speaking to People.
"I remember waking up and going, 'I feel like home,'" she told the outlet. "I realized, 'Oh, that was him.'"
They told the outlet that since then, they've "always been each other's biggest support and fans."
On Kevin's 66th birthday on Monday, July 8, 2024, he posted a shirtless "thirst trap" photo on Instagram, writing, "This is 66. ."
"Not too shabby! ❤️," Kyra commented.
