King Charles Opens Up About Cancer Treatment Side Effect During Military Event

On February 5, 2024, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles had been diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer. He began treatment that same day and stepped back from public facing duties. No other specifics were divulged at the time.

Charles resumed public appearances in April 2024. On May 13, he visited the Army Flying Museum in Hampshire, England. He connected with British Army veteran Aaron Mapplebeck. The two compared side effects from their cancer treatments.

King Charles revealed during his treatment he experienced a "loss of taste." Aaron could relate. He underwent nine rounds of chemotherapy to treat testicular cancer. His taste buds were also negatively impacted.

Charles was not visiting the museum simply to take in the sights. He was officially handing over the Army Air Corps regiment’s title of colonel-in-chief to Prince William. This regiment just so happens to be the one Prince Harry was once a part of.

Prince Harry was in London on May 8 to take part in the Invictus Games Foundation’s 10th-anniversary Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul’s Cathedral. He invited his extended family but they instead attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace.
