Kody Brown’s Daughter Gwendlyn Claims He Was Almost Arrested In Utah For Polygamy

Kody Brown’s life has undergone major changes in the last couple of years. When audiences first met him on the hit TLC show Sister Wives, he was married to three women, who were soon joined by a fourth. Kody and Robyn Brown, Meri Brown, Christine Brown, and Janelle Brown documented their polygamous lifestyle on the series.

These days, Kody is married only to Robyn. The pandemic revealed cracks in the other marriages. Kody’s daughter Gwendlyn, whose mother is Christine, recently revealed on her YouTube channel that Kody also faced legal trouble during the series. According to her, authorities in Utah were not supportive of their lifestyle and threatened to arrest Kody.

"Police were actually coming to our door when I was a kid and being like, 'You have to leave,'" she described. An officer even told her, "We're gonna take your dad to prison." This is big news, because this was not portrayed on the series.

The series does show the family moving out of Utah to Las Vegas, Nevada, because of pressure from authorities. They felt they would be able to live their desired polygamous lifestyle in that state. In 2011, the Browns did attempt to challenge Utah laws against polygamy but were not successful.

For Robyn, the move to Vegas was bittersweet. "There's a part of [Utah] that will always be home to me, always, but it's not friendly to us," she said. The family eventually settled in Flagstaff, Arizona, until the divorces.

Originally Kody was legally married to Meri, his first wife. When Robyn joined the family, Meri and Kody got a divorce on paper so that Kody could legally adopt Robyn’s kids. Christine left Kody in 2021. The following year, it was confirmed that Meri and Janelle had also separated from him, leaving him with only one wife, Robyn. Christine, Meri, and Janelle all believed that Kody favored Robyn over them, leaving them feeling unhappy and unfulfilled in their marriages.
