Loretta Lynn’s Granddaughter, ‘American Idol’ Finalist Emmy Russell, Is Expecting Her First Baby

Country music legend Loretta Lynn died in 2022 at the age of 90. However, her legacy continued through her granddaughter, American Idol alum Emmy Russell. And recently, Emmy announced she is expecting her first baby.

To recap, Emmy finished in the top five in season 22 of American Idol, which wrapped up in May 2024. She even performed a cover of her grandmother’s song “Coal Miner’s Daughter” on the singing competition series. Now, Emmy is pregnant with a little one of her own.

During a December live taping of the Got It From My Momma podcast, Emmy revealed the big news. She and her mother (Loretta’s daughter) Patsy appeared on the episode together. At one point, host Jennifer Vickery Smith told the audience, “Emmy Rose has some special news to share tonight.”

Emmy then shared, “Y’all, Tyler and me are expecting a baby girl.”

For those wondering, Emmy said she didn’t know she was pregnant during the singing competition earlier this year.

“I’m so excited that right out of American Idol — I didn’t know. So, you know, that’s kind of been the journey,” Emmy said. “I’m so excited.”

For the most part, Emmy, 25, and her singer-songwriter boyfriend, Tyler Ward, 40, have kept their relationship out of the spotlight. She has shared a handful of social media posts including photos of Tyler. In June, Emmy shared a mirror selfie with him, writing, “Classified. For now…🔎.”

On Election Day 2024, Tyler posted an Instagram photo of himself and Emmy posing with Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff.

“Had the privilege of meeting @kamalaharris and her husband at the White House this year! It was surreal. Kamala was very sweet,” he wrote. “You might be asking, how in the world did this happen?? Because @emmyroserussell is a superstar and was personally invited to perform. And me? Well…I’m just her arm candy.”

As of writing, Emmy has not shared when her due date is for her baby girl. She has not made the pregnancy “Instagram official,” either. Hopefully, fans will learn more about their little one on the way before (and after) she arrives in 2025!
