The latest look at Marilyn Monroe's life seems to fill in a previously unknown, important detail about her past.
Those familiar with the Hollywood icon's story know that her early life was turbulent. She was born to a young mother who had already escaped an abusive marriage and would later struggle with mental illness. Though Marilyn had men in her life who, along with foster parents and other relatives, would serve as father figures, nothing was known about her biological father.

A documentary might have finally uncovered the answer to that mystery. In Marilyn: Her Final Secret, filmmaker Francois Pomès follows the investigation as DNA testing is conducted on pieces of Marilyn's hair to find an answer.
John Reznikoff, president of University Archives in Connecticut, has a small collection of Marilyn's hair.

"I actually have several different locks of her hair, but the one that is the most valuable that was able to prove her lineage, came from her embalmer," he told Inside Edition.
Pomès believes he has identified Marilyn's father as Charles Stanley Gifford. Gifford had a brief affair with Marilyn's mother, Gladys Baker, in 1925. Though Marilyn had suspicions he was her father, he vehemently denied the affair.
Gifford has a living granddaughter, Francine Gifford Deir. The documentary claims that her DNA matched Marilyn's in a way that confirms her as a biological aunt.
