Mary Lou Retton Is Finally Recovering At Home After Weeks In ICU With Rare Pneumonia

Mary Lou Retton is home and recovering after spending weeks hospitalized in the ICU with a rare form of pneumonia, according to her daughter, McKenna Kelley.

A few weeks ago, on October 10, 2023, the retired Olympic gymnast's daughter shared that her mom had been in the ICU for over a week at that point. McKenna shared an update to her Instagram profile on October 23. "UPDATE," the post began in all caps. "Mom is HOME & in recovery mode. We still have a long road of recovery ahead of us, but baby steps."

"We are overwhelmed with the love and support from everyone," the post continued. "Grateful doesn’t scrape the surface of the posture of our hearts."

"Thank you Jesus, thank you doctors & nurses, thank you to this loving community of support," she concluded the post. The news of her being released from the hospital comes just days after news was shared of Mary experiencing a "scary setback."
