More than two years after he retired, Maury Povich has launched a podcast. On the first episode of the podcast, On Par with Maury Povich, Maury was joined by his wife, journalist Connie Chung. When given the opportunity to ask her husband a question, Connie, 78, asked Maury, 86, how he feels about his retirement.
“That was two years ago,” Maury told her. “Don’t you think you could’ve asked me earlier?” However, Connie reminded her husband of an important detail: “Well, you didn’t have a podcast.”
The talk show Maury ran from 1991 to 2022. Maury, who started his career as a journalist, later became known for saying, “You are the father” or “You are not the father.” Now, about two years after his retirement, he watches reruns of his talk show because he doesn’t always remember who the father is.
“I’m happy that the show ended,” Maury told his wife. “It ended at the right time because it’s not really over. If I turn on the TV, every single day, there’s the show.” He added that he sometimes watches the reruns because he “can’t remember that segment.”
“And you want to find out who the baby daddy is,” Connie responded. “Yeah,” Maury told her. “Just like everybody else.”

Connie pointed out that she sometimes sees clips of the show on Instagram, but they don’t actually reveal the paternity test results. Maury explained that those clips are the “part one” clips. To find out who the baby daddy is, she needs to watch part two, he explained.
During an interview with People, Maury touched on the impact of his talk show, noting that guests “could create a safe space with me.” However, he “didn’t have the opportunity to talk about” himself.
Reflecting on his career, he added, “For the past 30 plus years, everybody has thought of me as a kind of a talk show host who [discusses] certain themes. That was a great career and I love the storytelling, and I think that I was able to do successfully because of my earlier career as a journalist and a storyteller when it came to news, and rather traditional talk shows that I did.”
Maury’s podcast launch comes just after his wife Connie published her book, Connie: A Memoir. Previously, Connie spoke to People about how there’s a side to Maury that people don’t usually see. “Maury has this persona on television, but he’s very serious and I’m crazy,” she told the magazine.
“I’ve always said to him, ‘It’s great that you’re determining the paternity of every child in America, not that there’s anything wrong with it, but you could run circles around these intellectual snobs,'” she added at the time. As she promoted her book, Connie jokingly referred to Maury as her “baby daddy.”
