Michael Douglas Recalls Being Mistaken For His Kids’ Grandfather: ‘That Was Rough’

Michael Douglas was 56 years old when his son Dylan Douglas was born. That same year, he married Dylan’s mother, Catherine Zeta-Jones. The couple would go on to welcome daughter Carys Douglas two years later.

In an interview with Telegraph published on April 20, 2024, Michael opened up about being mistaken for his kids' grandfather. It wasn’t his favorite experience. Overall though, Michael is happy to be an older father because he believes he was better at it the second time around. Michael also has a son, Cameron Douglas, from a previous marriage to Diandra Luker.

Michael went to visit his kids at Brown University, where they were both studying. A “helpful” stranger tried to advise Michael. "This is not grandfathers' day, this is parents' day,” Michael recalled them saying.

“I am a parent,” Michael clapped back. The damage was already done. “That was a rough one,” Michael admitted.

Michael is a proud father and is happy to see his younger kids start lives of their own. "Catherine and I have been together, it’ll be 25 years this year. So it’s been a good ride and I’ve been very fortunate, happy with the choices that I’ve made and now am kind of really backing off and smelling the roses a little more, traveling more," he mused. “We’re empty nesters so we can get around a lot more than we used to raising two children in your 50s, 60s, and into your 70s?”
