Communication is always key. One Iowa mom was disappointed and angry at her son’s school district for its lack of it. Nicole Kurth claims her son Trace was kicked off of the school bus for fighting but she was never notified.
According to Nicole, Trace was left to contact her himself. She was 30 minutes away at work. The school district claims protocol was followed.
Trace, a sixth grade student, was left near his school. His home was 4 miles away so he eventually called his mom. He was suspended for fighting. "I couldn't believe that he had just been left by the bus without any sort of parental notification," Nicole stated.
Nicole is speaking out because she never wants this to happen to another family. She is grateful that everything worked out OK but knows it could have been so much worse. "It's terrifying. It's terrifying and I think for me personally, I'm really thankful nothing bad happened and that it all turned out okay," she stated. "I think it's important that all districts have some sort of policy in place that all the bus drivers are very aware of the protocols that they should be taking when there's a disciplinary issue on board the bus."

West Central Valley's Superintendent Rusty Shockley issued a statement to KCCI about the incident. The district did not comment on communication but did say the bus driver followed protocol. "The district has protocols in place for when a student or students need to be removed from a school bus,” the statement read. “The driver is to return to the nearest district attendance center for the student(s) to be removed. This protocol was followed by the bus driver."
