Family Abandons Newborn With Rare Condition, Nurse Finds Him & Knows She’s Found Family

Most of the time when soon-to-be moms are in the hospital giving birth, they find themselves brimming with a sense of both intense happiness and anxiety as they think about what’s to come. When things don’t go smoothly and it’s discovered that their newborn baby may have a serious health condition, all of that happiness can fade in an instant.

Adam Paulraj was born with a rare condition called Bartsocas-Papas syndrome, which is said to affect just 26 people around the world. This health condition left Adam with a severe cleft palate, missing eyelids, and fused-together legs.

His biological family found themselves unable to accept Adam’s condition and according to ABC 13 News, after his birth, he was left at a missionary hospital in India. It was at the hospital that a nurse from Jacksonville, Florida, named Jessica and her psychiatrist husband, Raja, found little Adam.

From the moment Jessica laid her eyes on Adam, she knew that he was meant to be her child. The adoption process went fairly quickly and the loving couple were able to bring Adam to the United States for additional health care.

Even though Adam had a strong heart, he underwent over 10 surgeries after his birth. Adam’s medical needs got expensive for the family, but they were able to raise money through donations and even had special individuals within their community reach out on their own to help fund Adam’s surgeries.
