Goshen, Ohio, Woman Marries Herself At 77 Years Old In Her Dream Ceremony

A 77-year-old woman has captured the attention of many in an emotional gesture. Dorothy "Dottie" Fideli had the wedding of her dreams, but there's a catch. She walked down the aisle in a stunning gown, just to marry herself.

The ceremony took place in her retirement home. Dottie is a resident of the O’Bannon Terrace Retirement Community in Goshen, Ohio. She was surrounded by her family, friends, and other residents and staff of the home.

Her community of loved ones were eager to help Dottie honor herself through such a symbolic ceremony. Her daughter cooked and decorated. The retirement home's property manager performed the ceremony.

“I do some crazy things around here just to make people laugh,” Dottie shared. “When I see them all down in the dumps, I go get one of my outfits on and dress up and come down, and they smile.”

The ceremony ended up being more meaningful than she'd intended, however. She was able to have the wedding of her dreams, despite thinking that it might be too late for her. Dottie shared that she told her daughter, "This is what I’ve always wanted and I’m so happy that you (gave) it to me.”
