After achieving her weight loss goals during her "year of health" in 2020, Rebel Wilson took to Instagram to share that she has recently gained some weight. She admitted that she feels bad about the weight gain even though she knows she shouldn't. The actress decided to make 2020 her "year of health" and she lost about 80 pounds. The following year, she didn't gain the weight back and even lost a bit more.
But on January 15, 2024, she admitted that her busy schedule has made it harder to focus on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. She wrote on Instagram: "Working really hard has meant that, coz of all the stress, I’ve gained 14kg’s (30 pounds)! It makes me feel bad about myself…it shouldn’t…but it does."
"I’m really proud of the work I’ve been doing on new movies and my memoir, it’s just been a LOT and I’ve lost focus on my healthy lifestyle. Anyone else going through the same thing?" Rebel continued.
Fans were supportive of Rebel, telling her that weight fluctuation is normal and that what really matters is who she is, not how much she weighs.
"Your weight doesn’t change your acting skills or sparkling personality we all love," one person wrote in response to her Instagram post. "Keep being an inspiration to us and our daughters ❤️."

"Your body is allowed to be comfortable," another person commented. "Keep up with your healthy choices and fitness, but allow for the joy and little things that make you happy. At the end of the day, your weight and body don't define you. We'll love you whatever you weigh."
Many shared their experiences with the actress, opening up about their struggles with maintaining their ideal weight or loving their bodies.
Rebel later edited her post to thank everyone for their support. "Update: I woke up this morning and read all your comments – they bring a tear to my eye. Thanks everyone! " she added.
Rebel previously spoke to People about how her desire to have a child made her think about making changes to her lifestyle to become healthier. She also has polycystic ovary syndrome.
"It's almost like I didn't think of my own needs. I thought of a future child's needs that really inspired me to get healthier," she told the outlet.
Though Rebel was committed to making lifestyle changes, like being more active and eating healthier, she also tried to avoid being too hard on herself. "Your health is your world," she said when speaking to Today, so focusing on being healthy is what's most important to her.
"Don't beat yourself up if in the past you were unhealthy, because I definitely was engaging in unhealthy habits like eating junk food and sugar all the time," she advised others when speaking to Today. "But it doesn't do any benefit to beat yourself up. It's more about going 'OK, I'm going to do this for me.'"
"Try things throughout the year, different lifestyle habits that are positive and healthy, and see what results you get. Any steps that you take towards having better health is a plus," she continued.
Rebel is also an advocate for body positivity. She told People that she wants to "celebrate all body types but I also want to encourage people to be healthy."
Still, she has felt insecure about her weight at times.
"I was invisible in a way even when I was an international movie star," Rebel told People, referring to how she was treated before she lost weight.
She admitted that she noticed people treating her differently after she lost weight. "Then suddenly to have people want to carry your groceries, do nice things for you purely because of how you look, it's interesting." she said.
"There is a societal bias towards what society deems as good-looking. It's not right. It sucks, it's unfair," she told People. "I feel sad if somebody doesn't love the body they're in."
She has previously reminded her followers that they are more than what they look like. In July 2022, she wrote about how she gained some weight while on vacation.
"I’m at an amazing all-inclusive resort…I’ve lost all self control . But you know what? I can get up tomorrow and go to the gym, and hydrate and eat healthy and love myself," she wrote on Instagram at the time.
In the same post, she had a positive message to share: "It doesn’t help to be hard on yourself but I know what it’s like to feel guilty and not great after eating too much. But if you’re like me just know YOU are more than just your weight, your weight doesn’t define you, just try your best to be healthy and don’t be so hard on yourself Be the best version of you "
