There is a reason why so many people around the globe miss seeing acting legend Robin Williams on their movie and television screens — it’s because there was no one else like him.
This viral video posted on Instagram shows some rare footage of Robin auditioning for a commercial in the 1980s. All the actor had to do was deliver one line on camera for the director, but in true Robin Williams’ nature, he had to get there in his own way, which included almost 13 minutes of hilarious improvisations.
Robin rose to fame in the late 1970s, when he became known for his comedy acts as well as his stint playing a sweet-natured alien in the popular sitcom, Mork & Mindy.
The viral audition footage shows Robin being his super playful and inventive self right from the get-go. When the director calls “Action!” from off-camera, Robin is promptly asked to please turn around and face the director as he immediately starts in with one of his many signature characters and voices.
Throughout the audition footage, Robin is seen going off the cuff in about a million different and hilarious directions, including a little song and even a Jack Nicholson impersonation. The director, as well as other people on set, can inevitably be heard laughing at the comedian many times throughout his lengthy audition.
