On August 11, 2014, the world got significantly less funny. Actor and comedian Robin Williams died by suicide at age 63. He left behind three children including his oldest Zachary Pym Williams. On August 11, 2023, Zak took to Instagram to pay tribute to his late father. He used humor, which surely would have made Robin proud.
After news of Robin’s death broke, the world learned he had recently been suffering from extreme depression. He was also diagnosed with Lewy body dementia. His passing serves as a good reminder to always check on your strong friends because you never know what is going on behind the scenes.
“Dad, on the 9th anniversary of your passing, I'm remembering you for your most excellent fashion choices,” Zak wrote. His caption accompanied a photo of Robin in an oversized T-shirt and cargo shorts. Robin accessorized with tennis shoes and a racket.
The rest of Zak’s caption got more sentimental. “These days are always hard and I love remembering you for being so very, very YOU,” he went on to say. “Love you so much!”

On July 21, 2023, Robin would have been 72 years old. His daughter Zelda Williams marked the occasion in a Tweet. “Happy birthday to Poppo, who definitely would’ve been out there fighting the good fight for art and artists today and always,” she wrote referring to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
Zelda and brother Cody Alan Williams are from Robin’s second marriage to Marsha Garces Williams while Zak is from Robin’s first marriage to Valerie Velardi. These days, Zak is a mental health advocate and the CEO of Prepare Your Mind, a dietary supplement company. Zelda is an actress, producer, writer, and director following in her father’s footsteps. Cody is also in the entertainment industry but behind the camera in roles such as a second unit director and assistant director. Cody has no public social media presence.
Zak also marked his dad’s birthday on Instagram. “Happy 72nd Dad! Was remembering how much I used to love that look you'd give,” Zak’s post began. “That look with a mischievous, loving grin that your friends and loved ones knew so well. Joyous and curious and wondrous. Miss you and love you forever!”
Zak is a father himself. He shares two children with his wife Olivia June. Robin never got to meet them, but the couple named their eldest son McLaurin Clement Williams in honor of him. McLaurin was Robin’s middle name. There’s no doubt Robin would have been an excellent grandfather.
