Ron Howard, 70, is celebrating 49 years of marriage with his wife, Cheryl, and started getting emotional while talking about his love for her on The View. The Oscar-winning director was on the show to talk about his recent project, Disney+ documentary Jim Henson: Idea Man, but cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin also asked him about his wife because they are celebrating their 49th wedding anniversary this year.
On the screen, a photo of Ron and Cheryl going to prom together when they were in high school was displayed. Ron boasted that his now-wife made the dress that she wore to the event.
When Ron was younger, he explained on "The View, he didn't exactly fit in; he was "introverted" and "a little awkward," so some people "would kind of tease" him even though he was "famous."
But he "found this girl" — Cheryl.
"She was just so full of life," he said, describing his now-wife. "She was flying airplanes. She was going to night school to get ahead, and all of these things."
