It seems you can't turn on the news anymore without learning about another school shooting. The vast number of them in the United States is tragic, heartbreaking, and frankly unnecessary. We don't have time to properly process the trauma of one before another occurs. Unfortunately, another one occurred today.
This morning, Monday, March 27, 2023, a school shooting occurred at Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee. Because this is a breaking news story, not all of the details are available. What is known is that at least three students are dead as a result. The shooter is also deceased. It’s just another day in America, a country that values guns more than students’ lives.
Covenant School is a private Christian school that serves students from kindergarten to sixth grade. Vanderbilt Medical Center confirms that three students so far were declared dead at the hospital. Police also confirm they engaged with and killed the shooter in the crossfire.
"We are responding to an active aggressor at 33 Burton Hills Blvd Covenant School. We can confirm we have multiple patients," the Nashville Fire Department wrote on Twitter. "Parents coming to the school should go to 20 Burton Hills at this time, this is an active scene."

According to officials, the shooter was female. She appeared to be in her teens. Her exact identity or motive is not known at this time.
Three adults were also killed in the shooting. Tennessee Governor Bill Lee said he is "closely monitoring the tragic situation. Please join us in praying for the school, congregation & Nashville community."
More details will surely be released as this tragic situation continues to unfold.
