People tried to break into a Secret Service vehicle in Washington, DC, over the weekend, and a Secret Service agent protecting President Joe Biden's granddaughter opened fire in response, the Associated Press reported.
The vehicle that a few people tried to break into was unmarked, parked and unoccupied at the time of the break-in attempt and it's unclear if they knew that it was a Secret Service vehicle meant to protect Naomi Biden, according to The New York Times. The incident happened at around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday when the agents assigned to protect Naomi Biden were out with her.
Though a Secret Service agent opened fire in response to the break-in attempt, "it is believed no one was struck," Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi shared in a statement. The DC Metropolitan Police Department will investigate the shooting as it does with all police shootings in the area.
The Secret Service spokesperson also said there was "no threat" to Naomi Biden. "Possibly three individuals" broke a window on the vehicle, then fled the scene in a red vehicle.

The neighborhood where the incident occurred is upscale and densely populated.
“The facts and evidence in the case will be independently reviewed by the United States Attorney’s Office," the police department said in a statement.
