Even though it may not feel like it at times, police not only exist to watch over their communities but also to highlight good deeds that might otherwise have gone unnoticed.
Officer Joe Holt was having a seemingly average day out on patrol in Independence, Missouri. He was sitting in his patrol vehicle after having a bite to eat in a restaurant when he looked up and noticed something quite surprising happening nearby.
According to KRON4 News, it was pouring with rain outside when Officer Holt spotted a teen running across the parking lot while taking his jacket off. The police officer sat back “in awe” when he watched as the teenager draped his jacket over an elderly woman who was “struggling to get to her car.”
At that moment, Officer Holt found himself utterly impressed by this act of generosity by this young individual and he got out of his patrol car and followed him to his mother’s van.
Officer Holt explains that when he told the teen boy’s mother what he had witnessed, the pair had a “moment” as he’s a parent as well and felt that the teen should be proud of how he behaved.

The news outlet reports that Officer Holt didn’t stop there as he posted a photo on social media of the teen boy giving his jacket to the elderly woman trying to make it to her car. He never caught his name and he wanted to reward the teen with a dinner of his choosing for his act of kindness.
