The cause of death for Thomas Kingston, the husband of Lady Gabriella has been revealed as a "traumatic head wound," according to a spokesperson for the coroner's office. Kingston died by suicide at his parents' home in the Cotswolds on Sunday, February 25, 2024. He was 45 years old.
Katy Skerrett, the senior coroner for Gloucestershire, said he had lunch with his parents before his father took their dogs out on a walk. "On his return, Mr. Kingston was not in the house," Skerrett reported, according to The Telegraph.
Sky News correspondent, Dan Whitehead, posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) that Skerrett said Kingston "was found in a locked outbuilding with a catastrophic head injury — a gun was found at the scene." His death was announced in a statement on Tuesday.
“It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the death of Thomas Kingston, our beloved husband, son and brother,” it read. “Tom was an exceptional man who lit up the lives of all who knew him. His death has come as a great shock to the whole family, and we ask you to respect our privacy as we mourn his passing.”

Buckingham Palace also released a statement after being notified on Kingston's death. “The king and the queen have been informed of Thomas’s death and join Prince and Princess Michael of Kent and all those who knew him in grieving a much-loved member of the family,” it read. “In particular, Their Majesties send their most heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Gabriella and to all the Kingston family.”
Prince Michael of Kent is the late Queen Elizabeth's first cousin. Lady Gabriella is 56th in line to the throne.
A friend of Lady Gabriella spoke to the Daily Mail, saying she saw the couple on February 21, 2024, at a National Gallery event in London. “They seemed happy and positive as ever,” the friend told the outlet Wednesday. “Ella [Gabriella] was particularly chatty.”
“None of us saw it coming,” the friend added. “I cannot understand it.” At the time Kingston's death was announced, it was said that it was not being treated as suspicious and that no other parties were involved.
Lady Gabriella and Kingston wed in May 2019 at St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle. Their wedding was just a year Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's took place at the same location.
Kingston was formerly a director at Devonport Capital and a former hostage negotiator in Iraq. He also previously dated Pippa Middleton. Many are taken aback by his sudden death.
One person wrote: "What a tragedy for anyone to feel the necessity of suicide. Tomorrow is another day and where there is life there is hope."
"Poor man," another person commented. "May he rest in peace. Very devastating for his family to have to deal with this."
