Naomi Campbell, Rosario Dawson, And More Remember Tina Turner: ‘Legends Never Die’

The world lost a beloved, resilient rock 'n' roll icon on May 24, 2023. As confirmed by her publicist, Tina Turner died “peacefully” at age 83 “after a long illness in her home in Küsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland.”

Tina’s impressive career paved the way for future artists such as Beyoncé and Lizzo. The “Proud Mary” singer’s influence cannot be overstated, which can be seen in the many celebrities taking to social media to share their condolences and memories of the late diva. Her talent and narrative touched so many lives.

Beyond her publicist’s statement, Tina’s death was also announced on her social media accounts, including Instagram. Many celebrities reacted in the comments.

“Rejoice In Paradise Queen. Legends Never Die and Rest In Power,” wrote actor Rosario Dawson.

“REST in Peace & Power. THE QUEEN, LEGEND, ICON. There will never be another. Cherish many times with you,” supermodel Naomi Campbell gushed.

“Long Live The Queen. Long Live The King. Long Live Tina Turner,” Questlove commented.

Many celebs posted moving tributes to the late Queen of Rock 'n' Roll on their personal social media accounts. Ciara posted two beautiful photos of Tina doing her thing on Twitter. She captioned them: “Heaven has gained an angel. Rest in Paradise Tina Turner. Thank you for the inspiration you gave us all.”

Fellow diva Mariah Carey took to Instagram to share her tribute to Tina. “The words legendary, iconic, diva, and superstar are often overused and yet Tina Turner embodies them all,” she mused. She went on to add her own titles, “an incredible performer, musician and trailblazer.” Mariah knows that Tina’s legacy is ironclad. “Her music will continue to inspire generations to come,” she emphatically stated.

Bravo host Andy Cohen’s Twitter tribute was short but sweet. “SIMPLY THE BEST BEST BEST. WE LOVE YOU TINA,” he wrote in all caps, ending with several heart emojis.

Hostess with the mostest Martha Stewart shared an adorable photo of Tina and her cuddled up in bed together. “We loved Tina Turner. Goddess, Performer, Wonder Woman ! We will miss her so much!!!!!!!!!” she captioned the pajama party photo.

"I Will Survive" singer Gloria Gaynor also got in on the action. “I am so, so very sad to hear of the passing of @TinaTurner, the iconic legend who paved the way for so many women in rock music, black and white. She did with great dignity & success what very few would even have dared to do in her time and in that genre of music,” she wrote on Twitter. Fellow divas recognize greatness in one another.

Another singer, Kelly Rowland of Destiny’s Child fame, felt compelled to mark Tina’s passing. “Thank you Queen, for giving us your all!” she wrote on Instagram. She even used Tina’s given name, Anna Mae Bullock.

Angela Bassett has a beautiful history with Tina, having portrayed her in the 1993 film What’s Love Got to Do with It. Angela released a statement about her friend’s passing, saying, “It's impossible to say goodbye to someone who was as impactful as Turner. Tina Turner showed others who lived in fear what a beautiful future filled with love, compassion, and freedom should look like.”

Angela even shared the last words she spoke with the late icon. “Her final words to me — for me — were 'You never mimicked me. Instead, you reached deep into your soul, found your inner Tina, and showed her to the world.' I shall hold these words close to my heart for the rest of my days. I am honored to have known Tina Turner,” Angela concluded. It seems as if the ladies were members of a mutual admiration club.
