Toddlers may be tiny humans but they are smart. Underestimate them at your own peril. Dad Thomas Gallagher learned this on a recent trip to the store. He told his 3-year-old son, Auggie Gallagher, that he could get a new toy that fit into his hand. Auggie wasn’t going to let that silly rule hold him back from getting the toy of his dreams.
Thomas caught the whole exchange on video and posted it on Instagram. It’s adorable and heartwarming. Many people took to the comments to share how it made them smile. Thomas was happy to hear that Auggie helped spread joy.
In the video, Auggie can be seen holding a Fisher-Price DJ table. It clearly could not fit into his hand like his dad had stipulated. “It fits in my hand,” Auggie argued.
“You can carry it, but I said you can get a toy that fits in your hand,” Thomas countered. "Can you hold it in one hand?"
Smart cookie that he is, Auggie figured out a way to do this. He utilized a carrying slot in the box and held the toy proudly in one hand. He smiled triumphantly at his dad.
“He’s a clever little guy and always thinking about how he can get the things he wants,” Thomas explained to Today.

After all that work, Auggie ultimately went a different direction. He decided against the DJ Table. “He lost interest and picked up a fire truck instead,” Thomas explained.
Thomas is pleasantly surprised by his 15 minutes of fame. Everyone has responded with kindness. “I post a lot of kid content and there’s often a lot of opinions on how to parent. But with this, there has been no negative feedback, and it’s actually fun to read the comments,” he shared. "I'm happy the video is making other people so happy."
