President Donald Trump has an interesting relationship with his five kids. People have long speculated that his two oldest sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, have daddy issues. Meanwhile, Ivanka Trump has seemingly gotten a lot of attention from her father, but that has also come with creepy comments about her. Tiffany and Barron Trump are both in the spotlight much less often, and the president has even referred to Barron as his wife Melania’s son.
So, a lot of people have assumed that Ivanka is the president’s favorite child. Now that she’s stepped back from politics to focus on her own family, the family dynamics have shifted. According to a recent report, this could have been an opportunity for Tiffany to step in and try to strengthen her relationship with her dad. But apparently, he already has a new favorite, and it’s not her.
People have already been talking about how Trump’s granddaughter Kai seems to have replaced Ivanka.
And insiders who spoke to commentator Rob Shuter also suggested that this is the case. During Trump’s first term, Ivanka served as an advisor to the president. Kai, 19, has not gotten involved in this capacity. Though she has been spotted attending events with her grandfather and spoke at the Republican National Convention in 2024, she has said she’s not interested in getting involved in politics.
But according to Shuter’s recent report, she “has replaced Ivanka as Donald’s favorite.” Which… ouch? That sounds pretty… harsh. But one insider made it clear that the president still loves his daughter; it’s just that their relationship has changed.
“Ivanka chose a quieter life,” that insider explained. “She didn’t lose Donald’s love, but she did give up the role of being the family member he most enjoys showing off. Kai has naturally stepped into that space.”
Apparently, Kai helps her 80-year-old grandfather feel young again.
Instead of politics, Kai seems more focused on golf, social media content, and brand partnerships. And although people have approached her in public to criticize her grandfather, she has said she sees him as a normal grandpa.
In a YouTube video in May, Kai received a call from her grandfather while she was getting her hair done. “My grandpa’s calling me,” she said in the video before answering her phone.
“So cute,” she said of the phone call. “Isn’t it so cute that he just calls me whenever? He’s literally just, like, a grandpa, I swear. He literally is on the way back from China and he’s calling me. I know, very very cute.”
There are, of course, many people who don’t find Kai’s grandpa “cute.” An insider told Shuter that Trump loves talking to and spending time with his granddaughter because “she makes him laugh, keeps him feeling young, and genuinely loves being around him.”
Interestingly, Trump also has a son around Kai’s age.
One source told Shuter that Trump thinks it’s great that Kai connects with younger people. “Donald loves that Kai connects with a younger generation,” the insider claimed. Meanwhile, Trump’s son Barron is 20, just a year older than Kai. But perhaps Kai is the current “favorite” because Barron doesn’t seem all that interested in being in the limelight and would much rather lie low. Melania has said that he was involved in his dad’s campaign in a behind-the-scenes way.
Maybe Trump can relate to his granddaughter more because she does not seem averse to attention and appears to like appearing on camera. “She’s fun, loyal, and authentic,” one insider told Shuter. “Right now, she’s the Trump everyone wants to see—and Donald couldn’t be prouder.”
