President Donald Trump faced backlash Monday after he suggested that domestic violence is not a serious crime.
Trump made the remark while speaking to the White House Liberty Commission at the Museum of the Bible and touting how his federalization of the Washington, D.C. police force has brought down crime there “to virtually nothing.
He said the crime there is “much lesser things, things that take place in the home they call crime.
“You know, they’ll do anything they can to find something. If a man has a little fight with the wife they say, ‘This is a crime. See?’ Now I can’t claim 100%″
Trump’s critics condemned his remarks.

“So domestic violence isn’t a crime now?” tweeted Call to Activism. “What the actual f*ck is wrong with this man?”
Sarah Longwell, founder and CEO of The Bulwark, characterized the remark as “just a casual dismissal of domestic violence as a crime.”
