A Turkish man was trying to capture his chickens, who had escaped. He chased them through a hole in his basement during home renovations — only to find an entire underground ancient city. That city once housed 20,000 people.
The man discovered the city after knocking down a wall. The ancient city of Elengubu is now known today as Derinkuyu.
Derinkuyu is more than 280 feet beneath the Central Anatolian region of Cappadocia. It's the largest underground city in the entire world.
