Whoopi Goldberg knows a thing or two about ghosts. The Oscar-winning Ghost actress considers herself an expert of all things paranormal, and on the latest episode of The View: Hot Topics, she warned viewers about the dangers of living in a haunted house.
The 68-year-old host discussed the story of a man who bought a house discounted by $100,000 because it was the site of a murder-suicide. His wife eventually left him because he didn't disclose that information to her before she moved into the house with him.
"Most places most of us have lived have had people die in them. It's just the nature of life," she explained. Panelist Alyssa Farah Griffin replied, "Peacefully is a little different for me. Quietly in the night, I can deal with."
Cohost Sara Haines proposed the idea of hosting a podcast with Whoopi inside of the murder house, while reprising her Academy Award-winning Ghost role as medium Oda Mae Brown. "Will you visit? Come on, we can do this together, Whoopi," Sara said, embracing the actress.

Whoopi then spoke about the fears people may have about living in a haunted house. She reassured her cohosts that if they were living in a home with paranormal activity, the ghosts inside likely wouldn't tend to linger around before letting them know they weren't welcome.
"Five years went by, the husband had no issue, he forgot to say to her, 'Darling, I asked you to marry me, but you'll be living here in the murder house with me.' Nothing in the five years bugged her," Whoopi said. "If stuff was going to come up and get her, she'd have been gotten by now. Ghosts don't tend to wait. If they don't want you in the house, they will put you out by hook or by crook."
Whoopi starred in Ghost as Oda Mae Brown in 1990. She was initially hesitant to star in the movie, but lead actor Patrick Swayze changed her mind. "I get a phone call from my agent, Ron Meyer, who says, ‘Patrick Swayze has been hired for this movie. Patrick is not going to do this if you don’t do it. Can you make some time for him and the director to come up?’" she recalled in an interview.
“So they flew in, I meet Patrick, and out of the blue, [it’s like] we’re old friends,” she continued. “About 40 minutes go by and Patrick says, ‘Please do this with me.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, OK.’ And that’s how it happened.”
Whoopi didn't know how great the film was until she watched it with Patrick. "I said yes, not really knowing what it was going to be. It wasn’t until we all saw the film that we realized what we had," she said.
“He [Patrick] looked over to me and said, ‘Do you remember making this movie?’ I said, ‘I remember some of this, but I don’t remember all of this!’ It was kind of like, ‘Oh my God, this is great!’”
